Bolivia Strengthens the Strategic Approach of the Value-Added Program for Family Farming
With the objective of strengthening the National Value-Added Program for Family Farming Products, strategic recommendations were presented to expand and refine its conceptual framework. These suggestions aim to consolidate a comprehensive approach that enhances rural productive development and the economic inclusion of MSMEs.
The proposal structures the program around two major pillars: value addition and market linkage. It emphasizes addressing value addition from a territorial perspective, promoting short supply chains such as farmers’ markets, direct sales to hotels and restaurants, and integration with public procurement systems. It also proposes fostering commercial linkages for differentiated products, including collective brands, geographical indications, and products with territorial identity.

To ensure the program’s effectiveness, it is recommended to implement its operational proposals within supportive regulatory and institutional frameworks. Furthermore, increased value addition is expected to generate positive impacts on job creation, youth and women entrepreneurship, process and product innovation, food safety, and climate change adaptation.
These recommendations represent a key step toward consolidating public policies that promote territorial development, sustainability, and the competitiveness of family farming in Bolivia, in alignment with experiences such as SADER in Mexico and research lines of INTA in Argentina.
