The Sustainability and Climate Change Agency of Chile (ASCC) and the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change of Mexico (INECC) strengthened their cooperation through a community training program focused on implementing strategies and methodologies for the integrated management of solid waste. Emphasis was placed on the following areas:

Exchange of experiences: Successful practices and lessons learned were shared, strengthening community capacities and creating synergies between both institutions.

Sustainable fisheries: Mexican fishers received training on practices applied in Chile, including the identification of endangered species, artisanal fishing regulations, the establishment of marine protected areas, and fisheries management.

Climate change adaptation: The importance of strengthening local capacities to implement resilience projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), was highlighted.

Future outlook: Expanding the scope of the exchange through new joint activities between Chilean and Mexican coastal communities was proposed, fostering their participation in decision-making and the implementation of shared actions.

This initiative reaffirms both countries’ commitment to sustainable development and regional integration, promoting innovation and resilience for the benefit of coastal communities.
